Artificial Turf Installation in Bryan & College Station, TX
Thinking about trading a stretch of lawn for artificial turf? You're in good company around here. We're Legacy Outdoor Services, a Bryan and College Station crew, and this is a job we take on most weeks.
Why Choose Legacy Outdoor Services for Artificial Turf Installation in Bryan & College Station, TX
Artificial turf today is a genuinely lived-in product. It drains properly, handles dogs and kids, holds up to direct sun, and the better brands look convincingly like natural grass even up close. The payoff for a homeowner is a yard that stays green all twelve months with almost none of the weekend work.
Our crew has completed over 1,500 outdoor projects across the Brazos Valley. We handle turf installs in-house from the first walk of the yard through to the final brush-down, which keeps the work consistent and the communication direct. We’re a Google Guaranteed contractor and members of the National Association of Landscape Professionals.
Around here, summers are hard on a traditional lawn. Water restrictions, long dry spells, clay-heavy soil, and hot patches near driveways, fences, and trees all work against it. A properly installed turf system gets you around most of that, and our crew has spent years learning what holds up on Central Texas lots and what doesn’t.
Experience the difference of true commitment to quality with Legacy Outdoor Services:
- 1-year craftsmanship warranty
- Licensed and insured install crew
- Next-day consultations and estimates
- Clean, organized installations
- Google Guaranteed landscaper
- Over a decade in the Brazos Valley
What Brazos County Homeowners Say About Us
The kindest thing a client can do is tell their neighbour about us. That happens often enough that we’ve gathered a few of those conversations below, so you can hear it directly from the folks we’ve worked with rather than through our own pitch.

After having trouble finding a fencing contractor in the BCS area, I contacted Legacy Outdoor Services (formerly Aggieland Dirt Works). Trevor Young replied to me promptly and I received a very reasonable quote. We scheduled a day for the demolition of the old fence and the crew was right on time and finished the job quickly and very well done.
Trevor and Chelsi were both very responsive and their crew installed a very high quality fence – both materials and workmanship. I highly recommend contacting them for any of your outdoor construction projects.

Types of Artificial Turf We Install
Not every yard calls for the same product. A putting green needs something very different from a dog run, and the turf we’d recommend for a shaded play area isn’t the same one we’d lay under a patio table. Here’s a rough guide to the main options we work with.
| Turf Type | Best Suited For | What Makes It Different |
|---|---|---|
| Landscape Turf | Front yards, backyards, and general lawn replacement | Natural blade shapes, mixed green tones, soft feel underfoot, and medium pile height for a realistic lawn look |
| Pet-Friendly Turf | Dog runs, side yards, and backyards with pets | Extra-drainage backing, odor-resistant infill options, and shorter pile height for easier rinsing and cleanup |
| Putting Green Turf | Backyard golf practice areas and short-game spaces | Dense, short-cut turf designed for smooth ball roll, consistent speed, and proper putting performance |
| Play Area Turf | Kids’ play zones, swing sets, and backyard recreation areas | Softer fibers, optional shock-pad underlayment, and fall-height-rated installation for safer play areas |
We’ll walk through the options with you during the site visit and match the product to how you actually plan to use the space.
Where Artificial Turf Works Around Your Home
Homeowners sometimes think of turf as an all-or-nothing choice for the whole yard. Most of our installs are actually partial, targeting the spots where natural grass has been losing the fight for years. A few of the places it earns its keep:
- Back yards with heavy foot traffic
- Dedicated dog runs and pet zones
- Around pools and water features
- Kids' play areas and swing sets
- Backyard putting greens
- Side yards where grass never quite takes
- Front lawns during water-restriction seasons
- Shaded spots under mature oaks and pecans
- Slopes that are awkward or unsafe to mow
Keeping Your Artificial Turf Looking Its Best
Maintenance on artificial turf looks very different from a natural lawn. No mowing, no watering, no fertilizing, no weekend schedule built around the sprinklers. What it does need is occasional attention, and the full routine comes out to maybe a few minutes a week.
- Rinse with a hose every couple of weeks to clear dust and pollen
- Brush up high-traffic areas with a stiff broom to keep fibers standing
- Spot clean pet messes with water and a mild, turf-safe cleaner
- Blow or rake out leaves and debris in the fall
- Top up infill every couple of years if the crew recommends it
That’s genuinely the list. We walk you through the routine on the day of handover, so nothing’s a guess.
Staying In Touch and On Schedule
Homeowners tend to worry about two things when a crew pulls up to the driveway: how often they’re going to hear from us, and when the job will actually be finished. Both are fair, and we take them seriously from the first site visit onward.
You get a single point of contact for the whole project, and we answer the phone. Trevor started this business partly because too many homeowners told us they felt forgotten once the contract was signed. We send updates as the work progresses, flag anything that changes early, and keep the important stuff in writing so nothing gets lost in a text thread.
Construction around your home can feel like it stretches on forever. We plan the job in stages before the crew shows up, set realistic start and finish dates, and keep the site tidy between visits. We hit our deadlines on almost every project, and when something does shift, you’ll hear it from us before you have to ask.

Retaining Wall Installation FAQs
Turf runs warmer than natural grass in direct sun, the same way any dark surface does. On the hottest August afternoons, it can be uncomfortable on bare feet in full exposure. In shaded areas, in the morning and evening, or with a quick rinse from the hose, most homeowners find it perfectly fine. Cooling infill products are also available if the heat is a real concern for your space.
Yes, and it’s one of the most common reasons homeowners call us about turf to begin with. Pet-specific products have extra drainage in the backing and odor-resistant infill, so urine rinses straight through rather than soaking in. Your dog gets a clean green surface year-round, and you get your yard back from the brown patches and dug-up corners.
Artificial turf needs a proper sub-base to drain well and stay level. That means removing the existing grass, grading the surface, laying a compacted crushed stone base, and only then rolling the turf on top. Installing over live grass usually leads to sinking, drainage problems, and visible seams within the first year, so we never take that route.
A quality product laid over a well-prepared base usually lasts 15 to 20 years before the fibers start to show real wear. A lot of that comes down to what’s underneath, which is why we spend real time on grading, compaction, and drainage before anything green goes down. Shortcuts at the base stage tend to show up as soft spots and seams years later.
